Knights of Columbus to Promote Volunteerism in 9/11 Tribute
60-second broadcast spot to air during inaugural game of NFL '09 Season
The Knights of Columbus, one of the nation's most active volunteer service organizations - and the world's largest lay Catholic organization - will air a unique 60-second 9/11 tribute ad during NBC-TV's broadcast of the inaugural game of the NFL's 2009 season on Thursday night, Sept. 10. The piece will run during halftime of the 8:30 p.m. ET game, which will feature the Tennessee Titans and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The spot will run in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Dallas. Recalling the heroism displayed on 9/11, the 60-second spot reminds Americans that "we can still see the best in humanity today," if we "give back." The spot directs viewers to http://www.servicetogether.org/ - a Web site with resources for volunteers and volunteer organizations. The importance of giving is captured in the commercial through the story of 9/11 hero Capt. Al Fuentes of the FDNY Marine Division. Capt. Fuentes, now retired, was buried in the rubble of World Trade Center for nearly two hours before being rescued by his fellow firefighters. "What I have been given is another chance," Fuentes recounts in the piece. "I need to, and I will, give back: that is what the Knights of Columbus have always shown me for 38 years."The Knights of Columbus produced the ad as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks and as a reminder of the importance of keeping their heroic spirit of service alive. The spot concludes by listing a new Web site, http://www.servicetogether.org/, set up by the Knights of Columbus to help volunteers find organizations that can put their talents to good use, and includes resources to help volunteer organizations work more effectively with the volunteers they have. "We will never forget the tragedy of September 11, 2001," said Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus. "But we also must not lose sight of the heroic giving spirit of that motivated the heroes of 9/11 and those who volunteered in its aftermath. The problems we face today are different from those of 2001, but the need for service to our neighbor remains the same: it is truly, 'the best of humanity.'" In addition to the game on Sept. 10, the piece will run during NBC's regional coverage of NFL games on Sunday, Sept. 13 in the same cities, and in New York, Dallas and Los Angeles during the PGA tournament. One of the nation's most active charities, last year the Knights of Columbus donated more than $150 million and nearly 69 million hours of service to charitable causes. The Knights of Columbus was one of the first organizations to organize a response to 9/11. On Sept. 12, 2001, the Knights of Columbus launched the "Heroes Fund" which provided emergency funding - without red-tape - to the families of fallen police, firefighters and emergency services personnel. Nearly $1.5 million was distributed via this program.

Knights of Columbus
Pledge victory in federal court

(MANCHESTER, NH) - The Knights of Columbus scored an important victory in federal court in New Hampshire on Wednesday, September 30, when U.S. District Judge Steven McAuliffe upheld the constitutionality of the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Atheist Michael Newdow had filed the lawsuit against the school system in Hanover, New Hampshire on behalf of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, in a case that mirrored his earlier lawsuit against schools in and near Sacramento, California.

As with the California case, the Knights of Columbus sought and received permission from the court to become a "defendant intervenor," allowing attorneys representing the Order (from the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty) to participate directly in the court proceedings.

The California case, argued before a panel of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in December 2007, has still not been decided. Read the New Hampshire court decision.

2009 Third Quarter: KC IRA & Annuity Interest Rate

Know anyone who might be interested in a no fee, retirement annuity with a
AAA rated company and a 3% minimum guaranteed interest rate for the rest of
his or her life?

IRA/Sep/TSA Annuity Interest Rate 07/01/2009 - 09/30/2009

The Flexible Premium Annuity Rate will be 3.50% plus .25% for amounts over
$10,000. 3.75% for over $10,000 is very competitive in today’s interest
rate market, especially given the reductions made by the FED on prime
rates. These rates are for payments received in New Haven July 1, 2009
through September 30, 2009, and are guaranteed till June 30, 2010. And
your annuity/IRA is guaranteed not to drop below 3.00% ever.

The interest rate for funds on deposit which have been receiving their
interest rate for one year or more will be 3.80%.

The beauty of our annuity products lie in their simplicity and their
security. Simple from the standpoint that they are fixed in nature.
They provide long-term accumulation of wealth, specifically designed for
retirement needs. There are no hidden management fees and no annual
charges. Surrender charges may apply, but are waived at time of death,
or if lifetime income is requested.

Secure because they are backed by the Knights of Columbus, an
organization that consistently earns the highest ratings from independent
rating
services while maintaining the highest ethical standards. Safety of
principal -
guaranteed. Secure settlement options - guaranteed income for life.

Our investment philosophy is consistent with the nature of the funds
entrusted to us. We invest in vehicles that generate competitive rates
for you, while assuring absolute safety of your retirement nest egg.

Brothers, please publish in your next newsletter.

There are many fine life insurance companies in the marketplace. So why
entrust your life insurance needs, and those of your family to the Knights
of Columbus?

In a recent lecture at Yale University, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson
summed it up this way:
"Our core values permeate all levels of our marketing program. Our
'Marketing Code of Ethics' is modeled after the Ten Commandments and
includes statements such as 'Thou shall present honestly and accurately,
all facts necessary to enable a member to make an informed decision.'
Our ethical principles for marketing are summed up by our Golden Rule: 'In
all my professional relationships, I pledge myself to the following rule of
conduct: I shall, in light of all conditions surrounding those I serve,
render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would apply to
myself.'"

That's what you can expect from your Knights of Columbus agent. I'll be
happy to meet with you, at your convenience, to honestly and accurately
present all facts necessary for you to make an informed decision. I
promise to render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would
apply to myself.

I
am pleased to formally announce a dividend enhancement to our newly
released 800 series of permanent life insurance for the Youth Class
(ages 0-17). The December, 2008 issue of ‘Columbia Magazine’
contains an article titled “The Gift That Lasts a Lifetime”.
In the article the author talks about the many advantages of parents
taking out a permanent life insurance policy on their children.
Among the advantages are guaranteed purchase options and guaranteed
insurability up to the age of 40, cash value accumulation, leverage
against future debts or loans, future coverage for your child’s
family, and lower premium rates for children.

Industry
studies show that 87% of adults still own the life insurance policy
that their own parents bought them as a child. The juvenile market
has played an important part in the growth of Knights of Columbus
Insurance through the years. This enhancement is a part of our
continuing efforts to provide maximum value to our members and their
families, while as equitably as possible distributing dividends from
our divisible surplus. It also provides an incentive for our members
to provide at least $25,000 of coverage for their children and the
opportunity for their children to have up to $200,000 of permanent
coverage by age 40, regardless of changes in health.
